Justice served: New Criminal Code regulation holds corporations accountable for their crimes.
The issuance of a new regulation through Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (which was promulgated and ratified on 2 January 2023), that regulates corporate crime marks a significant step towards in the fight against white-collar crime.
In contrast to Wetboek van Strafrecht, the new Criminal Code provides a framework for prosecuting corporate crimes and sets out clear penalties for those found guilty. It also establishes provisions for holding corporate officers and directors personally liable for their involvement in criminal activities.
